About

More about the Kehillah
Kehillat Mevakshei Derech was established as an independent congregation in Jerusalem in 1962. Initially a roaming study group organized by the students and adherents of the late Rabbi Mordechai Kaplan, the founder of the Reconstructionist Movement in the US,
the Kehillah metamorphosized into a permanent congregation
with its own building.
We express our appreciation to those who helped establish the Kehillah, including Sue Brecher for whom the sanctuary is named and Rabbi Jack Cohen, the spiritual founder and leader of the Kehillah.
The Kehillah embraces a profound connection to Jewish values and traditions along with a commitment to humanistic and democratic values. While we respect the past, we also seek to adapt Jewish tradition to modern life. In 1999, the community joined the Reform movement in Israel. You can visit the Reform movement website for more information.
Thanks to the generous donation of Sydney and Frida Davidson,
in 2012 the Davidson Center for Education and Culture was inaugurated. Today, two preschool programs operate in the Center, attended by some 160 children.
For details about the preschools, you can access their websites:
In addition to prayers held on Shabbats, holidays and festivals throughout the year, the community holds experiential activities such as: trips, volunteering, and seminars.
Everyone is invited to join us!
